UNDERSTANDING HAIR LOSS

Our hairs go through a natural cycle of regeneration and it is normal for the average person to lose 50-100 hairs each day. If you are losing more than 100 hairs a day, you will notice a change in the volume of your hair in the form of thinning or bald patches. This is classified as hair loss.

As hair regeneration slows down, you will notice more hair falling out when you brush or wash your hair. In females, hair loss is typically characterised by thinning around the mid-frontal area of the scalp. You may notice your hair parting getting wider. In males, you might observe increased baldness in the front and top of the head.

We understand that hair loss can often have devastating effects on a person’s self-esteem. At Hair Regrowth Clinic, we are dedicated to helping you regain your confidence with hair regeneration.

What causes hair loss?

Although rare, there may be certain medical conditions that can be the underlying cause. These include alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease), thyroid issues, scalp infections, iron deficiency, menopause and pregnancy just to name a few.

Majority of hair loss is due to genetics, otherwise known as androgenetic alopecia. Other common terms include male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness. This affects up to 80% of men and 50% of women. In these cases, you are likely to experience hair loss if either of your parents have had this problem.

However, not all hair loss is the same. Although rare, there may be certain medical conditions that can be the underlying cause. These include alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease), thyroid issues, scalp infections, iron deficiency, menopause and pregnancy just to name a few.

This is why it is important to undergo a medical consultation with one of our qualified doctors or nurses to determine treatment suitability and ensure the best possible results. Consultations at Hair Regrowth Clinic can be done online or in-person, and are usually free or at no cost to you.

TREATING HAIR LOSS

The best way to treat hair loss is treating it as early as possible, as soon as you notice it. The longer you delay it, the more treatments it will take for you to achieve and maintain significant results. Even in very severe cases where a hair transplant may be needed, you will need to keep the existing hair strong and slow down hair loss in the rest of the areas.

Hair Regrowth Clinic has achieved an extremely high success rate of hair regeneration over the last 20 years. Our hair regrowth program is backed by clinical research, and typically combines in-clinic treatments of Scalp Microneedling (with a TGA approved microneedling pen) and a prescription homecare regime to help stimulate the hair follicles and encourage hair regeneration.

The length and intensity of your treatment may differ depending on the severity and type of hair loss. We usually recommend Scalp Microneedling every 2 weeks for the first 3 months, and monthly thereafter. You will also be asked to adhere to the home treatment regime, which usually consists of the DRBC Regrowth Serum, DRBC Dermaroller and DRBC Regrowth Shampoo. You will receive more information during your free consultation.

Scalp Microneedling treatment involves the collection of your blood (approximately 8-10 ml), just like taking a blood sample for blood test. This is spun down using a centrifuge to separate out and extract the growth factors that promote hair regeneration. The growth factors will then be administered to your scalp with a TGA approved microneedling pen to help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth. Numbing cream will be applied so there is typically little discomfort to no pain at all.

No two patients are the same and the results will vary between individuals. During your free consultation, we will ensure that you are a suitable candidate to undergo our Hair Regrowth Program in order to maximise your results. We find that patients will usually see visible hair regrowth within 8-12 weeks should they adhere to the treatment plan.

Treatment for hair loss is an ongoing process as your scalp health will inevitably continue to deteriorate as you age. We recommend for the initial course of treatment to be 6 sessions, every 2 weeks. After this, maintenance Scalp Microneedling sessions are recommended once a month. You will also be asked to adhere diligently to the home treatment regime.
